It’s always a time of reflection when thanksgiving comes along. I always think of my grandma Leone… she loved any excuse to have us come over… she wanted family around at all times…it’s been twenty eight years since she died..I still think of her all the time…

She taught us so much… kindness, humility, joy, thankfulness… family… food…it was a blissful experience. One I took for granted. I think we all did. Grandma was one of those people that had survived everything…she could beat cancer too.

After she passed our family evaporated.., we tried to keep it all together just like she wanted… yet everyone moved on… new lives… marriages… kids… jobs… life gets in the way of so many things…

Memories are a funny thing… they crop up when you least expect them. Tears rolling down my cheeks…when I write this…I remember all those thanksgivings filled with love…family…food…pure joy…

As much as you try to recreate them it is impossible… those moments were one of a kind. They are something you can see, feel, remember ones that can never been experienced again…yet their are things you can do to make sure those loved ones live on thru you…their traditions=your traditions…

Trials, hardships have followed us since her death. I wonder sometimes how she would have dealt with a pandemic or gender equality…so much has happened in my own life… I appreciate every moment I have…every holiday… every phone call… because life is short…love and kindness are free… those are things she taught me… along with lasagne recipes… meatballs…giving a gift that matters… being thoughtful in all you do…treating others with kindness regardless…unconditional love…full…complete…real.

So I guess tonight is a reflection of all I have lost…all I have gained… a future uncertain…but love unconditionally given just as she would have

So friends as we enter this thanksgiving please take time to tell your family you love them… spend time with them… take pleasure in the little things like pecan pie or mashed potatoes… love unconditionally… be kind… give of yourself everyday…so that you can truly experience gratitude…

That’s all I have tonight friends…Life and writing are a work in progress…(just like me)😉
